Sprinter Short Repeats as Big West Honoree

March 26, 2009

Irvine, Calif. - Sophomore sprinter Ciara Short of Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday repeated as Big West Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week, capturing the fourth weekly award for the Titans in this young season.

Short (San Diego / Madison HS) broke a 20-year-old school record as she won the 400 meters race at the USC Trojan Invitational Saturday. Her time of 54.15 bettered the 54.31 held since 1989 by Lori Shaw. Short also placed fourth in the 200.

Last week, Short won the same honor after winning both the 200 and 400 and being part of a winning relay team at the Aztec Track and Field Classic. High jumper Johnathan Golden and long jumper Garrett Myers won the Male Field Athlete of the Week Awards the past two weeks.
