Field Events Again Titans' Strength

Los Angeles, Calif. - The field events again proved to be the shining light for Cal State Fullerton's track and field team Saturday as Matt Turner in the high jump, B. J. Vandrovec in the pole vault and Aaron Williams in the long jump turned in the Titans' best showings at the Trojan Invitational Saturday at USC.

Turner placed second in the high jump at 7 feet, 1/4 inch, trailing only USC's Jesse Williams, who cleared 7 feet 4 1/4. Vandrovec cleared 16 feet, 2 1/4 in the pole vault to place fifth behind winner Derek Scott of USC, who went 17 feet, 1 inch. Williams also placed fifth in the long jump, going 24 feet, 3 inches. The winning jump was 25 feet, 10 inches by Juaune Armon, competing unattached.

On the women's side, Nancy Blake ran fourth in the 400 in 56.69 for the best individual Titan finish. The Titans' "B" 4x100 relay team placed third and the 4x400 team of Blake, Kandace Wilson, Kristen Goossens and Kimiah Hudson ran fourth.
