Hunt Breaks Two School Records in Opener

Feb. 11, 2008

Colorado Springs, CO - Sophomore Jameena Hunt set two school records and sprinters and hurdlers gained the finals for Cal State Fullerton Saturday in the season-opening indoor track and field meet at the Air Force Academy Open.

Hunt put the shot 44 feet, 2 3/4 inches to take sixth place. She did not make the finals in the weight throw but her preliminary mark of 46 feet, 11 inches also was a school indoor record.

Junior Kristyne Hanberg placed seventh in the 60 meter dash in 7.87 seconds after qualifying at 7.84. Freshman Lauren Williams ran fifth in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.76 seconds. Junior Kelly MacLean finished eighth in the pole vault at 11 feet, 7 3/4 inches and came close to clearing 12 feet, 1 1/2 inches.

"It was pretty typical for a season-opening meet," said Head Coach John Eldes. "We had some nice performances out of the gate and some struggled in their first competition. Overall, I thought it was a real positive effort.

"There was a fatigue factor after the first race and I think the altitude (7,000 feet) had some effect. We're not used to that and it showed in the longer sprint events."

The Titans compete again Saturday at the Husky Classic in Seattle.
