Golden, Hunt Qualify for NCAA Championships

Eugene, Oregon - Senior Johnathan Golden and junior Jameena Hunt each placed second in their respective events Friday at the NCAA Western Regional Track and Field Championships to qualify for the NCAA finals in June in Arkansas.

Golden qualified for nationals for the fourth time with a leap of 7-feet-1 inch in the men's high jump while Hunt shattered her school record in the discus by 14 FEET with a throw of 173 feet, 9 inches. All four of her legal attempts were better than her previous mark of 153 feet, 9 inches. Manjula Wijesekara of USC won the high jump at 7 feet, 4 1/2 inches while the shot put was won by Sarah Stevens of Arizona State at 180 feet, 6 inches.

Two Titan women qualified for today's finals. Lauren Williams is the top qualifier in the 100 hurdles after again setting a school record with a time of 13.22 to win her heat. Ciara Short qualified fourth in the 400 in a time of 53.90. Also competing Saturday are Andrew Sullivan in the men's pole vault, Juliane Masciana (ranked fourth) in the women's 3000 steeplechase and Garrett Myers in the men's triple jump. Hunt is scheduled for the women's shot put but may withdraw.
