Hunt Breaks Two School Records in One Night

April 28, 2007

Berkeley, Calif. - Freshman Jameena Hunt has broken a school record seemingly every week in the outdoor season but she topped herself Friday in Berkeley by besting her own standard in the discus and Amber Reardon's 2001 hammer throw to highlight the Titans' efforts in the California Collegiate Challenge.

Hunt beat her best discus toss by exactly 9 feet with a toss of 159 feet, 4 inches to place third and she topped the previoius best hammer throw (156-8) by more than three feet with a throw of 159 feet, 10 inches to finish seventh.

She overshadowed another strong performance by senior Jordan Horn, who followed up his impressive 10K win at Oregon last week with a victory in the 5K in a time of 14:34.69, winning by more than 15 seconds.

Other Titan highlights were Damien Nieves running second in the 3K steeplechase in 9:28.32, Andrea Aguilar and Luz Valdez running sixth and seventh in the women's 5K, Amanda Eichmann fifth in the wome's 3K steeplechase and Laron Brown placing third in the high jump at 6 feet, 8 3/4 inches and third in the long jump at 23 feet, 10 3/4 inches.
