Men's Track and Field Wins Battle in the OC at Home

FULLERTON, Calif. — Highlighted by a new men's 110m hurdles school record from Matthew Uballe, the Cal State Fullerton men's track and field team outscored Pepperdine and UC Irvine to win the Battle in the OC Thursday at home. The women's team placed second behind the Anteaters. 

Uballe became the first person in program history to run the men's 110m hurdles in under 14 seconds, winning the event with a school-record-setting time of 13.87. The time is the fastest in The Big West so far this season. Uballe bested the previous record of 14.04 set by Charles Kelly last season. Carter Birade placed second in the event with a personal-best time of 14.09. 

Several additional Titans recorded event wins Thursday, including Joshua Tan, who won the men's hammer throw with a PR of 58.16m. Sean Ayale won gold in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.79m, while Sam Heinrichs won the men's pole vault with a personal-best mark of 5.33m. Ernesto Collazo took second in the men's pole vault with a 5.18m, a new PR. 

Christian Wood won the men's triple jump, posting a mark of 14.31m. Justin Singer won the men's 1500m with a time of 3:59.31 and Dominic Gates took gold in the men's 400m with a 48.20. Camren Willis set a new personal-best as the lone competitor in the men's high jump, clearing 1.95m. Matt Cohen won the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 53.57. 

On the women's side, Dana McGrath earned gold in the women's 1500m, clocking a time of 4:42.63. Tayla Brunger won the women's 400m with a personal-best time of 57.46, while Unique Ford won the women's 800m with a PR of 2:13.67. Kyliegh Wilkerson won the women's discus with a personal-best mark of 48.64. Dylan Beveridge won the women's pole vault, clearing 3.57m on her first attempt. 

As a team, the men's squad finished with 168 total points, ahead of UC Irvine (99) and Pepperdine (41). The women's team finished with 157 total points, while UC Irvine finished first with 192 and Pepperdine had 53. 

Up next, the Titans prepare for the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, which will take place April 28-29. The meet will be Fullerton's final tuneup prior to The Big West Championships.
