DAVIS, CALIF. – In a record-breaking fashion, sophomore Andrew Aguilar brings home first Big West Conference Decathlon Championship in Cal State Fullerton history. Aguilar accumulated 6,983 points across the ten events, improving on his own school record by 269 points set just three weeks ago at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Aguilar set five new lifetime-best over the course of the two-day competition.

"It was great to see Andrew compete today, I remember when we were recruiting Andrew, he saw that we never had a decathlete compete or score for us in the Big West Conference; Andrew said he wanted to come to Fullerton to become the first, and he stayed true to his word.." - Head Coach Marques Barosso

Aguilar went into the final event of the decathlon in second place and was able to secure his victory after a strong start in the first 300-meters of the 1500m and was able to maintain his lead throughout the race to finish seven seconds in front of the next athlete.

"…feels good to go into the second week of conference championships with points for the first time, typically we are always behind due to the absence of an athlete competing in the Multis. If everyone does what they are supposed to do, we have a really good chance to compete for another Big West Conference Championship title." - Head Coach Marques Barosso

The Titans will head into the second week of Big West Conference Championship action next weekend with 10 points on the men's side, placing them in second behind UC Santa Barbara.
