LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – Titans sweep the women's open 1500m at the Bob Larsen Distance Invitational, as Maria Hernandez led the way after she set a new personal best of over twenty seconds after running 4:40.86. Emily Olson and Sara Jamil also ran new personal best of over ten seconds in the women's 1500m. In the women's 1500m Invite, Stefana Purkovic (4:40.07) and Laura Velasco (4:46.81) ran new personal best times by over four seconds.
In the women's 3000m Steeple Chase Invite, Eva Rethmeier ran 10:47.64 in her first ever 3000m steeple chase race to finish fourth overall. Rethmeier's time would have been good enough for a third-place finish in last year's Big West Conference Championships.
On the men's side, Vincente Huerta won the men's open one mile run with a time of 4:13.23. When converted, Huerta's time would be equivalent to a 3:55-3:56 1500m time, making a new personal best for Huerta. In the men's 3000m steeple chase, Bobby Brana ran a new personal best of 9:11.29 to finish seventh overall, while teammate Talman Young completed his first career staple chase race in 9:13.07, which was good enough for an eight-place overall finish. Young's time would have placed him fifth in the Big West Conference Championships last year. Tony Chavez ran a new personal best by thirteen seconds with a time of 9:14.91 finish in the top ten.
The Titans will be back in action as they set to compete at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational at Drake Stadium in Los Angeles California.
