Women Win Three Individual Titles on Day Two of BWC

IRVINE, CALIF. – The Titans kicked off Day Two of the Big West Outdoor Track & Field Championships with Senior Iesha Hamm defending her title has Big West Champion in the women's high jump after clearing 1.76m (5'9.25"). Hamm would be the first woman in school history to win the women's high jump in back-to-back seasons. Alexis Vincent-Walker made her way onto the podium as well with a third-place finish after clearing 1.66m (5'5.25"). To round out the scorers in the women's high jump, Jelani Minix tied for seventh to add 1.5 points to the women's team total.

Senior Naiah Boardingham jumped a new career best of 6.36m (20'10.5") to win the women's long jump and moves to #17 in the West Region. Boardingham also became the first Titan in school history to win a Big West Championship in the women's long jump. After competing in the Heptathlon last week, teammate Tammy Vein finished fifth after jumping a new personal best of 5.69m (18'8").

Sarah Hollis became the first Titan to win the women's 3000m steeple chase since Carolyn Ellis in 2010. Hollis ran the schools fourth fastest time ever in the event and will be back tomorrow to compete in the women's 5000m run.

In the women's 100H, all four Titans advanced to tomorrows final. Tammy Vien (14.50), Mariah Stewart (14.50), Karyn Best (14.58), and Madison Moku (14.63) will compete for a shot to be crowned Big West Champion. All three women entered into the 100m dash (Hailey Murdica, Naiah Boardingham, and Amir'a Edmond) will move on to the 100m dash final with Murdica running the fastest qualifying time and new career best 11.83 (+3.1).

Samantha Huerta would cruise to an automatic qualifying time in the women's 800m after winning her heat and logging the fastest time of the day.

On the men's side, Sophomore Christian Wood finished second in the men's long jump after a leap of 7.46m (24'5.75"). Wood's (10.85) also qualified for the men's 100m dash final along with Rasaun House (10.74), Naythn Scruggs (10.80), and Cooper Bibbs (10.91). Woods will be adding men's triple jump to his competition schedule tomorrow which kicks off at 11AM PST. 

Sophmore Bobby Brana ran a new personal best to finish third in the men's 3000m steeple chase. Brana now has the number four best time in Titan school history.

Charles Kelly (14.59) and Matt Cohen (14.67) both qualified for the men's 110H final set to take place tomorrow at 1:15PM PST. Meanwhile, Justin Lowe (48.05), Parris Samaniego (48.79), and Marcel Espinoza (48.28) all secured automatic qualifiers for the men's 400m dash final set to take place tomorrow at 1:45PM PST.

In the men's shot put, Corey Gilbert (16.70m) and Tanner Miller (16.50) finish fourth and fifth adding nine points to the men's team total. Miller and Gilbert will compete again tomorrow in the men's discus. Marcel Sylvester secured a third-place finish in the men's high jump to add six more points to the men's tally.

The Final Day of the Big West Conference Championships continues tomorrow as the men and women are set to begin competition at 11AM PST for the field events and 12PM PST for the running events. You can follow along by watching at BigWest.Org or tune into CBS Sports.
