Miller Takes Third in Men's Hammer

IRVINE, CALIF. – Tanner Miller was the first Titan to make the podium on Day 1 of the 2021 Big West Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Anteater Stadium. Miller finished third place in the men's hammer throw after a seasons' best toss of 58.01m (190'4"). Miller will be back in action tomorrow to compete in the men's shotput and Saturday for the men's discus competition.

In the women's hammer, Sinai Fatafehi and Bertha Sola scored points for the women's team after finishing fifth and eighth respectively. In the men's pole vault, Samuel Heinrichs ended his season with a fourth-place finish after clearing 4.91m (16'1.75"). Ernesto Collazo would fall short of his season best jump and finish eighth after clearing 4.76m (15'7.25"). 

Davis Yasuda wrapped up his season as well, with a sixth-place finish in the men's javelin. Yasuda logged a throw of 56.65m (185'10"), beating out Aaron Booth of Long Beach St.

Maya Occiano (1:01.81) would win her 400H heat and ultimately run the fastest time of the day to qualify for the finals currently set for this Saturday. Teammate Madison Moku also qualified for the women's 400H final with a time of 1:04.32

All three men, Reyte Rash (52.65), Charles Kelly 952.83), and Matt Cohen (54.10) who were set to compete for the Titans in the men's 400H have all qualified for finals and will move on to Saturdays' showdown.

All three women, Samantha Huerta (4:35.57), Trinity Ruelas (4:36.11), and Dana McGrath (4:37.47) qualified for the 1500m finals set for this Saturday.

The Men have four Titans qualify for the 200m (Parris Samaniego, Justin Lowe, Rasaun House, Cooper Bibs) while the women have Hailey Murdica and Deja Allain moving on to the finals for the 200m.

Day Two of the Big West Conference Championships continues tomorrow as the men and women are set to begin competition at 10AM PST for the fieild events and 5PM PST for the running events. You can follow along by watching at BigWest.Org or tune into CBS Sports.
