Titans Open Up 2021 Season with Big PR's

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton track and field opened up their 2021 outdoor season with a Tri-Meet against UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara Thursday at the Titans Track & Field Complex. In the men's 1500m and first race as a Titan, Sam Ayala unleashed a monster kick at the 400m mark and would win in high fashion with a time of 3:49.66. Bobby Brana ran a 14:56.44 placing second in the men's 5000m.

Charles Kelly brought home two wins in his season opener, 110H (14.26) and the 400H (52.18). While Matt Cohen set a new PR in the men's 110H running 14.87. Parris Samaniego (21.60) and Justin Lowe (21.67) would finish one and two in the men's 200m. Rasaun House (10.76) and Naythn Scruggs (11.01) finish first and second in the men's 100m.

Men's 4x100 relay (Hall, Scruggs, House, Bibbs) opened up their season running 40.89 and a win. The men's 4x400 relay squad showed their depth as they would finish 1 and 2 in front of UC Santa Barbara. Fullerton A-Team (Samaniego, House, Reyte, Lowe) ran 3:21.16 while the B-Team (Scruggs, Kelly, Cohen, Espinoza) finished close behind running 3:22.70.

 Senior Tanner Miller wasted no time showcasing his skills on his birthday and season opener. Miller will bring home two wins. Hammer with a throw of 55.52 (182'2") and ShotPut reaching 15.52 (50'11"). 

 Sophomore Juwan Seales would go on to win both the men's long jump (6.63 (21'9")) and men's triple jump (14.43m (47'4".25)). Marcel Sylvester added another first place finish in field events, by winning the men's high jump (2.05m (6'8".75)).

On the Women's side, Trinity Ruelas set a huge PR winning the women's 1500m (4:22.66), which placed her 2nd on the Titans All-Time list behind Sam Huerta. Ruelas 1500m time currently stands as the NCAA leading time for 2021 outdoor season. 

Karyn Best (14.95), Madison Moku (15.33), and Tammy Vien (15.49) sweep the women's 100H. Maya Occiano won the women's 400H running 1:02.22. In the field events, Senior Naiah Boardingham posted a first place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.13m (20'1".50). Jelani Minix finished first place in the women's high jump clearing 1.65m (5'5"). Andrea Woods placing second in the Javelin with a throw of 32.30 (105'11"), Sinai Fatafehi taking third in Hammer at 52.17m (171'2"), Junior Bertha Sola throwing 43m (141'1") in the Discus and Kyliegh Wilkerson coming in third in the Shot Put with a distance of 13.21m (43'4".25). 

 Next up, the Titans will host the Ben Brown Invitational next Friday and Saturday at the Titan Track & Field Complex.
