TF Wins 19 Events at RCC Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's and women's track and field began the outdoor season on Friday at the Riverside City College Invitational and won 19 of the 38 total events.

Senior Tanner Miller's toss of 186-0 (56.69m) in the men's hammer throw was good for first place overall. Right behind him in second place was junior Connor Anderson at 179-11 (54.84m). Miller comfortably won the shot put with a toss of 52-9.25 (16.08m). In second place was junior Adam Leiva with a personal-best toss of 49-0.25 (14.94m). Senior Corey Gilbert's toss of 160-0 (48.78m) was good for a win in the men's discus competition. Senior David Potts was second at 148-6 (45.28m) while Miller (147-1, 44.84m) and Anderson (145-6, 44.35m) took third and fourth place, respectively.

Freshman Kyliegh Wilkerson won the women's shot put with a toss of 43-8.75 (13.33m). Fellow freshman Teresa Chang took fourth place with a mark of 37-8.5 (11.49m). Juniors Sinai Fatafehi and Bertha Sola went 2-3 in the women's hammer throw with respective marks of 162-8 (49.58m) and 157-11 (48.14m). Sola's toss was a personal best. Chang took fourth place with a throw of 144-0 (43.91m) and Wilkerson took sixth place with a toss of 136-5 (41.60m). Sola won the discus with a mark of 138-9 (42.29m) and Wilkerson took second with a throw of 136-5 (41.55m).

Senior Naiah Boardingham won the women's long jump with a strong mark of 19-6 (5.94m) and went into a big headwind of 4.8 meters per second. Junior Mariah Lark won the women's pole vault competition at 11-11.75 (3.65m). The Titans also claimed places 2-3-4-6. Senior Shelby Noble, freshman Erika Flaherty and freshman Alexis Aquilizan all cleared 11-5.75 (3.50m) while freshman Jada Manikan cleared 10-6 (3.20m). On the men's side, freshman Daniel Palacio won the competition with a clearance of 15-4.5 (4.69m). Sophomore Thomas Slakey's mark of 14-10.75 (4.54m) was good for second place. Sophomore Alexis Vincent-Walker won the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-3.75 (1.62m).

Senior Kelsey Carroll won the women's 3K steeplechase with a time of 11:22.62. Senior Erick Juarez's time of 3:59.07 was good for first place overall in the men's 1,500-meter race. Freshman Alexis Garcia's time of 4:02.12 placed him third. Juarez took second in the 800 meters at 1:55.35 as well.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Vivian Akene, senior Lauren Delgadillo, sophomore Mariah Stewart and junior Paige Fults won with a time of 49.06. On the men's side, the quartet of junior Saadiq Jennings, sophomore Parris Samaniego, senior Marquis Rogers and sophomore Christian Wood won with a 41.65. Samaniego won the 200-meter sprint with a time of 21.85 (+0.4 wind) and freshman Naythn Scruggs took seocnd at 22.24 (+0.4 wind).

Stewart led the Titans in the women's 100-meter hurdles as they went 1-4 in a wind-aided (+2.6 race). Stewart clocked a time of 14.10 while sophomore Karyn Best took second at 14.22, freshman Citlalli Anguiano posted a time of 14.96 in third and sophomore Ku'ulei Moku took fourth at 15.04. Freshman Deja Allain's time of 12.13 (+0.9 wind) was good for second place in the women's 100 meters. Freshman Kynnedi McCall, primarily a sprinter and not a middle-distance runner, won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:17.98. Senior Marcel Espinoza did the same thing on the men's side and also won with a time 1:54.88. 

Fullerton also took places 1-4 in the men's 110-meter hurdles led by junior Charles Kelly with a personal-best time of 14.27 (+1.0 wind). Sophomore Matt Cohen (14.87), junior Sam Schubert (15.08) and junior Blake Rose (15.16) took places 2-4. Junior Rasaun House, primarily a 100- and 200-meter sprinter ran the 400 meters today and won with a time of 49.72. Freshman Reyte Rash took third at 50.51.

Next week the Titans host the Ben Brown Invitational on Friday and Saturday on campus at the Titan Track Complex.
