FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton track and field posted multiple personal-best times on Friday at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational. The highlights came from both the men's and women's steeplechase races. Competition resumes at 12 p.m. PT on Saturday.

Jorge Sanchez posted a personal-best time and the top mark in the Big West this year in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 8:56.23. He was second in the race overall and first among collegians, beating the third-place runner by 20 seconds. On the women's side, Gabrielle De La Rosa had an 11-second improvement on her top time this season, taking second place overall and first among collegians at 10:39.20. Her time is also tops in the Big West on the year. Kelsey Carroll's time of 10:53.70 was fourth overall.

"Both races went very well," head coach John Elders said. "Jorge ran well and that time should put him well into contention to go to NCAAs. The girls all ran really well with Gabby extending her conference-leading team. Kelsey Carroll basically tied her PR, Sarah Hollis broke 11 minutes for the first time and Paloma Barron had a personal best by 19 seconds. We had really positive results for the distance runners on the night."

Trevor Gorwin took second place in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 196-8 (59.94m), his second-best mark of the season. Connor Anderson took fourth place with a toss of 189-4 (57.71m), his second straight meet with personal-best toss.

Nicole Clark (149-1, 45.46m) and Kelsey McKelvey (146-1, 44.54m) went 2-3 in the women's javelin competition. McKelvey's toss was a personal best.

Naiah Boardingham tied her season-best mark in the women's long jump as she went 19-11 (6.07m) to take fifth place overall and second among collegians. On the men's side, Christian Wood's personal-best jump of 22-10.5 (6.97m) was good for sixth overall.

Shelby Noble cleared 12-5.5 (3.80m) in the women's pole vault to take third place overall. She has cleared 12-0 or better six times this season and two straight meets. Mariah Lark also cleared 3.80m, a personal-best mark, to take fourth place overall. Her previous personal best was 12-1.5 (3.70m).
