FULLERTON, Calif. -- Mirin Fader of the Orange County Register takes a deep dive into Cal State Fullerton Athletics and the strides numerous student-athletes are making off the field, including Titan high jumper Malik Johnson.

When senior Malik Johnson isn't competing in the high jump for Cal State Fullerton's men's track team, he's studying international business with a concentration in Mandarin Chinese. He studied abroad and completed an internship in Shanghai last summer.
Johnson has also created an app with a few of his friends called ShuPlug, a space where sneaker aficionados can buy and sell sneakers.
"Sports has given me the ability to make other areas of my life a lot stronger," Johnson said, "including my organizational skills, my discipline, in and out of the classroom."
Johnson is one of many Cal State Fullerton student-athletes excelling in the classroom, as the department boasts five programs with perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in 2014-2015.
