FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton men's and women's outdoor track and field are sending a group of eight Titans to compete in the NCAA West Region Preliminary Championship, held at the University of Kansas, this weekend.

The three-day meet will have live results and live video coverage for all three days as the Titans look to qualify for the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oreg.

Four Titans from the men's squad made the cut as Big West Champion Eli Penick qualified in the 100-meter dash, Big West Champion Darion Zimmerman in the 400-meter, Aneesh Joshi in the 110-meter hurdles and Nick Reynolds in the 400-meter hurdles.

Both the 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay squads made the cut as well, qualifying after the 4x100 squad won the Big West Championships for the first time while setting a new school record. This is the first time in school history that both relay squads made the cut, and the first time since 2007 that the 4x100m relay squad has qualified.

For the women, two of the Titans' top performers in Janaya Shorty and Jessica Flores qualified for the 200-meter dash and the hammer throw, respectively.

Eli Penick – 100m Dash
Penick made a name for himself in his first season as a Titan after transferring for his sophomore season from Butte College. The sprinter brought home the men's 100-meter dash title and demolished the school record with his time of 10.33, running the fastest time out of all Big West athletes this season and the fastest by the conference meet champion since 2003.

Darion Zimmerman – 400m Dash
Zimmerman also recorded a standout season, winning the 400-meter Big West title and the first Titan to win the event since 2007. Zimmerman posted a time of 47.46 at the Big West Championships, yet owns the best time in the Big West after running 47.01 at the Trojan Invitational.

Aneesh Joshi – 110m Hurdles
Joshi set a new school record in the 110m hurdles in his preliminary run on Friday at the Big West Championships and followed up the next day with an overall 2nd place finish. His preliminary time of 14.23 broke the new school record by almost a tenth of a second.

Nick Reynolds – 400m Hurdles
After missing part of the season due to an injury, Reynolds bounced back and qualified himself in the 400m hurdles after running a time of 52.18 at the Big West Championships.

Janaya Shorty – 200m Dash
Shorty has displayed outstanding performances in all of her competitions this year, highlighted by her run at the Mt. Sac Relays, recording a time of 23.79, good for second in the Big West. This is Shorty's third-straight appearance after qualifying in the 400m last season and the 200m during her freshman campaign.

Jessica Flores – Hammer Throw
Flores will make her second-straight appearance in the hammer throw after finishing 30thoverall last season at the West Region Championships. Flores recorded her best throw of the season at the Big West Championships, throwing 59.40m, finishing third overall.

Running for the men's 4x100m relay team will be Penick, Nathan Bass, Zimmerman and Luis Matos; while Reynolds, Thomas Medina, Zimmerman and Matos will run for the 4x400m relay.

The qualifiers from the West Region Championships will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 8-11, 2016.
