Titans Travel to San Diego and Texas to Continue 2016 Slate

FULLERTON, Calif. – The men's and women's track and field team will split up once again as the throwers are set to head to San Diego to compete in the Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday while the runners and jumpers head to Waco, Tex. to compete in the Michael Johnson Invitational on Saturday.

The Titans return to the track after a busy weekend last week, splitting up and competing in three different meets in a three-day span.

The throwers and distance runners had strong showings at the Beach Pacific Coast Invite as well as the Mt. Sac Relays, recording five new personal records on Thursday.

Senior thrower Steven Parsons set a new personal record in the hammer throw twice in two days, improving upon his Thursday throw at the Mt. Sac Relays by throwing a distance of 56.84m at the Beach Invite on Friday.

The sprinters also set six new personal records at the Mt. Sac Relays on Friday with four Titans placing themselves in the top four in the Big West in their respective events.

The Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego, will feature over 1,500 athletes from all over the world including Olympic Champion Greg Rutherford and World Champion Joe Kovacs.

The Titans will be sending a group of nine throwers including Parsons, Jalen Morgan and Tayla Schultz who all set new personal records in their respective events.

Last week at the Beach Pacific Coast Invitational, Morgan improved his personal record in the discus throw with his distance of 47.67m and Schultz shattered her personal record in the hammer throw by almost three meters, throwing a distance of 44.60m.

The Michael Johnson Invitational, hosted by Baylor University, will feature top runners from all over the country including Air Force, Angelo State, Baylor, Butler CC, Cal State Fullerton, Midwestern Western State, New Mexico State, Oklahoma Baptist, SFA, SMU, Stanford, Tarleton State, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Southern (women), Texas State and Texas Tech.

The Titans will be competing in 23 different events, including a variety of sprinting, jumping and distance events.

The meet will begin at 11 a.m. local time with the final event beginning at approximately 8:20 p.m. with the entire meet followed up with a fireworks show.
