RIVERSIDE, Calif. & EAGLE ROCK, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's and women's track and field team wrapped up the heptathlon and decathlon portion of the Big West Championships on Saturday at UC Riverside Track Facility with the rest of the squad in Eagle Rock, Calif. to participate in the OXY Invite to wrap up the regular season schedule on the campus of Occidental College.

The first weekend at the 2015 Big West Championships featured only the heptathlon and decathlon competitions, with the rest of the events taking place on May 15-16, also at UC Riverside.  Taylor Frank, Ifunanya Gwacham and Nicolette Garcia represented the Titan women in the heptathlon and Bubba Ostrowski was the lone Titan for the men in the decathlon. 

The rest of the Titan sprinters, hurdlers and mid-distance runners received one more opportunity to compete before their portion of the Big West Championships arrives in one week.  Twelve women made the trip to Eagle Rock to compete in eight events while nine men competed in six events on Saturday.

BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS – HEPTATHLON/DECATHLON

Frank was the top finisher for the Titans in Riverside, finishing sixth place in the heptathlon with a total of 4,592 points.  The senior's best individual result came in the high jump on Friday, finishing second place after clearing the bar at 1.58 meters.  Frank also had a top-five finish in the javelin throw, posting a distance of 33.45 meters to earn fourth place.

Gwacham and Garcia rounded out the Titan women in the heptathlon competition, finishing 13th and 15thoverall, respectively.  Gwacham earned two fifth place finishes, in her seven individual events, with the first coming in the high jump (1.52m) and her second in the shot put (9.79m).  Garcia's best finish of the day came in the high jump and 100m hurdles, finishing 11th place in both events.

Ostrowski took home eighth place overall as the decathlon finished up on Saturday afternoon.  His top-five finishes in the individual events included a tie for second place in the long jump (6.66m), a fifth place in the shot put (12.51m), a tie for third in the high jump (1.64m), a fourth place in the 110m hurdles (15.89 sec.), a tie for second in the pole vault (4.10m) and a fifth place in the javelin throw (53.49m).

OXY INVITE

The sprinting corps for the Titan men's and women's track team was well-represented at the OXY Invite on Saturday.  Joshua Gordon (10.92 sec.), Chaz Harmon (11.25 sec.), and Mason Rollins (11.03 sec.) ran the 100m dash for the Titan men while Darnisha Loftis-McKnight, Alexandria Stewart and Alexis Stewart ran both the 100m and 200m dash's for the women.  Malek Walls was the top-finisher for the Titan men in the 100m dash, finishing in 10.87 sec. to take home 12th place overall.  Janaya Shorty competed in one event over the weekend, finishing ninth place in the 200m dash with a time of 23.94 sec.  Senior Taylor Ros ran both the 100m and 200m dash's for the Titan men, finishing with a time of 11.14 sec. in the 100m, and a personal-best 21.95 sec. in the 200m.

A select group of Titan hurdler's made the trip to Eagle Rock, Calif. on Saturday with Nick Reynolds taking home the best finish in eighth place with a personal-best time of 52.94 sec. in the 400m hurdles.  Tyler Hardge was the top hurdler for the Titan women on Saturday, taking home ninth place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.63 sec. 

Tejera Dial was one of three Titan women who took part in the mid-distance runs at the OXY Invite.  Dial finished 12th in the 800m run with a personal-best time of 2:09.87 sec.  The senior finished just hundredths of a second behind the Fullerton school record of 2:09.75 sec. set by Lakeysha McClenton in 2002.

Shelby Hernandez Jr. was the lone Titan man to compete in the 800m run, finishing 31st with a season-best time of 1:51.86 sec.  Hernandez Jr. was also dangerously close to breaking school record, finishing less than a second off the pace set by Sean Krinik in 2013 of 1:51.15 sec.

The Titans concluded the last meet of the regular-season schedule on Saturday at the OXY Invite and now look forward to the second weekend at the Big West Championships in Riverside, Calif. with the runners, jumpers and throwers starting competition on Friday and wrapping up on Saturday.
