RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's and women's track and field made it two-straight meets re-writing the school record book thanks to Taylor Frank's record-breaking performance in the heptathlon competition over the first two days of the UC Riverside Spring Track and Field Classic.
Frank, who holds the Fullerton indoor track and field school record in the heptathlon, garnered 4,672 points and shattered Cal State Fullerton's previous school record of 4,508 points, set in 2003 by Lacey Welborn. The Anaheim, Calif. native filled up the stat sheet with personal-best finishes throughout the first day of the competition on Thursday and continued her dominance as the event finished on Friday.
The senior set a personal-best in the javelin competition after a throw of 119-feet-3 inches earned her a second-place finish in the event. Frank went on to finish the 100-meter hurdle event in 14.73 seconds, a personal-best time in the event as part of the heptathlon competition. She continued on to post personal-best finishes in events in a heptathlon in the high jump (5-feet-4.25 inches), the 200m dash (26.78 sec.), the long jump (5.34 meters), and the 800m run (2:32.99 sec.).
Ifunanya Gwacham, Nicolette Garcia and Leah Stevens joined Frank in the heptathlon competition throughout the first two days of the UCR Spring Classic. Gwacham, in her first time competing in the event, posted 3,868 points and set personal-best finishes in the 200m dash (27.03 sec.) and the javelin throw (83-feet-7 inches). Garcia finished the high jump with a personal-best jump of 4-feet-11.5 inches and Stevens followed suit by posting a personal-best in the javelin with a throw of 93-feet-11 inches.
The Titans complete the UC Riverside Spring Track and Field Classic Friday in Riverside, Calif. starting at 10:00 a.m. with the men and women's shot put competitions.
