Titans Record Top Individual Performances in Pasadena

FULLERTON, Calif.—Bryan Luther won the 200-meter and finished fourth in the 100-meter, while Deena Pierce led the women's sprint group with two personal-best performances in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles to pace Cal State Fullerton at the Pasadena games and Spring Break Invitational over the weekend.

 

Luther ran a 10.65 in the 100-meter dash at the Pasadena games, smashing his time of 11.18 last weekend at the Aztec Invitational to give him the second best time in the conference. In addition, he ran a 21.61 in the 200-meter, also giving him the second-fastest time in the league. Javon May had a solid day, producing a season-best time of 53.72 in the 400-meter hurdles. Tony Crutchfield opened things up with an impressive time of 15.09 in the 110-meter hurdles to round out the men's highlights in Pasadena.

 

Pierce lit things up for the Titan women, as she ran a 14.37 in the 100-meter hurdles, which ranks fourth in the conference and posted a 62.40 in the 400-meter hurdles, which is good enough for third in the Big West and 38th in the NCAA's west region.

 

Katie Wilson improved what already was a Big West-best in the 400-meter, dropping her time from 55.82 to 55.33 over the weekend. Ashley Sims then capped off what was a huge day for the women, as she posted a conference and personal best time of 11.76 in the 100-meter run.

 

The Titans also found success at the Spring Break Invitational, as University of Washington transfer Sean Krinik finished second in his section in the men's 800-meter with a time of 1:54.08.

 

"Overall it was a really good and fun weekend for us," said head coach John Elders. "It's really nice to just see us to continue to push in the right direction."

 

Jayson Perez (9:33.16) finished fifth and set a personal best in the 3000-meter Steeplechase, while Tim Reed (9:49.03) also set personal best and placed eighth.

 

Emily Taylor (10:08.49) and Katie Bathgate (10:12.18) both ran a personal bests and placed eighth and 10th respectively in the 3000-meter, while Ana Valdovinos recorded a personal best time of 4:46.65 in the 1500-meter run to round out the solid weekend in Irvine.

 

The Titans will now wait to find out which athletes will qualify for the California/ Nevada Championships, which will be held in La Jolla, Calif. on March 29-30th.
