Hamm Takes Third, Huerta Sets School Record at MPSF Championships

SEATTLE - The Cal State Fullerton women's indoor track and field team wrapped up Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships and the 2020 indoor season in Seattle on Saturday afternoon. Junior Iesha Hamm took third place in the high jump competition and senior Samantha Huerta set a school record in the 800 meters to take seventh place overall. The women's team took 14th place with eight points, the best finish in program history.

Hamm cleared 5-9.25 (1.76m) in the high jump to take third place overall, adding six points to the women's team total. She opened up 1.71m and cleared on her second try then soared over 1.76m on her first attempt. She was unable to clear 1.79m.

Huerta clocked an 800-meter time of 2:07.67 to smash the previous school record of 2:13.67 and finish in seventh place overall. 

Six Titans ran in the 400-meter timed final, led by senior Mia Franco with a time of 57.04, good for 26th place. Freshman Deja Allain (57.88), freshman Maya Occiano (58.04), sophomore Ku'ulei Moku (59.35), senior Kiana Clay (60.31) and sophomore Karyn Best (60.46) represented the Titans in the event as well.

Allain, Franco, Occiano and Moku ran the 4x400-meter relay in 3:53.54 to take 16th place.

Seniors Stephanie Cortez (4:59.18) and Sandra Flores (5:02.05) ran the mile and finished in 26th and 33rd place, respectively.

Juniors Alyssa Block (10:00.21), Sarah Hollis (10:00.64), Demi Marine (10:02.87) and Trinity Ruelas (10:10.24) competed in the 3,000-meter race. Block was the top Titan finisher in 43rd place.

The outdoor season begins on March 6 at the RCC Invitational in Riverside.
