ALBEQUERQUE, N.M. – Janaya Shorty demolished the previous school record in the 200m dash to lead the Titans' to a strong showing once again at the Don Kirby Invitational at the University of New Mexico this past weekend.

"Overall it was a positive weekend," said head coach John Elders. "We had a few breakthrough performances and a lot of technical improvements."

The previous indoor school record for the 200m dash was set by Ciara Short in 2011 with her time of 23.85 in which Shorty broke by .35 seconds.

Shorty's actual time was 23.43 but was adjusted to 23.50 due to the altitude, marking her name in the indoor record books.

Although Shorty was unable to run her leg in the 4x400, the quartet came up just shy of the school record with their time of 3:49.00, with India Owens leading off with the fastest leg with a time of 56.5.

Owens, along with teammate Morgan Love, both recorded personal records in the 400m dash with their times of 57.87 and 58.41, respectively.

The jumps saw a lot of technical improvements this weekend and although no new personal records were set, Ty'Jalayah Robertson was a strong contender in the high jump and had a great attempt at the school record of 5'8.5".

"I believe that their performance this weekend will set us up for a strong showing at the MPSF Championships," said Elders.

The Titans will head to Seattle, Wash. to compete in the MPSF Championships on Feb. 26-27.
