Titans Start Season With Strong Showing at NAU Friday Night Duals

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Titans saw seven different event winners while seven Titans broke personal records in their opening meet at the NAU Invite on Friday night.

Freshman Zuri Henderson toppled the field in the 400-meter dash with her final time at 57.08 while running the anchor leg in the 4x400 meter relay for the second place finish.

Alysee McMillen also set the stage taking the pole vault with a final height of 3.6 meters to round out the event winners on the female side.

Alexis Stewart recorded a new personal record in the 60-meter dash with her second-place finish time of 7.68 while Kyra Anderson finished 3rd overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.77.

For the men, Josh Gordon's 48.02 time not only led him to a first place finish in the 400-meter dash, but the senior also anchored the winning 4x400 meter relay team also consisting of Darion Zimmerman, Luis Matos and Diego Courbis.

Aneesh Joshi not only took the crown in the 60-meter hurdles but also set a new personal record with a time of 8.13 while Edwin Matthews also set a new personal record in the high jump with a final score of 2.1 meters to win the event.

The last event winners were Dwayne Lee in the long jump with a final distance of 6.82 meters while Trevor Gorwin won the shot put event with a distance of 15.96 meters and also took second in the weight throw with a distance of 16.31 meters.

"Overall it was a great meet for us," said head coach John Elders. "Like any early season meet we still have some kinks to work out, but great effort and energy from both squads."

The indoor track and field squad returns to action next weekend as they head to Seattle, Wash. To participate in the UW Invitational.
