Titans Smash Multiple Records up in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif.—Cal State Fullerton set four new school records, broke two previous meet records, and claimed four top-three finishes in what arguably was the team's most productive outing of the season up at the Run for the Dream Invitational at the Save Mart Center over the weekend.

 

Katie Wilson set a new school record and placed second in the 600-yard dash (1:25.06), while Ashley Sims set a new school-best mark in the 55-meter dash (7.11), which converts to a school record-breaking time of 7.63 in the 60-meter dash. Wilson's 600-yard dash time is currently good enough for 23rd in the nation.

 

Deena Pierce set a new school record in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.12. The mark is also is a personal best in the 60-meter hurdle converted time of 8.69.

 

Katie Bathgate (10:11.23) and Lauren McIntyre (10:14.94) placed fourth and fifth in the 3000-meter, both smashing what was a previous meet record of 10:17.37, set by Cal State Los Angeles' Vivien Wadeck back in 2010.

 

"I thought the kids looked great this weekend," said head coach John Elders. " It was really great to see them perform that well at this point in the season. This is definitely an excellent boost for us now as we head into the outdoor season."

 

Jasmyne Davis recorded a top-four finish for the second straight weekend, as she took third in the triple-jump with a leap of 38-02.00, while Amanda Mercado finished ninth in the women's weight throw with a personal best 38-08.75.

 

Ana Valdovinos (5:20.43) and Casey Candelaria (5:22.83) placed third and fourth in the mile run, while Tijerra Lynch (2:27.15) and Sara Taylor (2:27.15) finished fourth and seventh in the 800-meter to round out the rest of the top performers for the Titans.

 

On the men's side, Javon May ran an 8.06 in the 55-meter hurdle and placed fourth. With the 60-meter hurdle conversion, the time was 8.59, which is a personal best for May. Bryan Luther (6.40) placed third in the 55-meter dash. With the 60-meter conversion, that is also a personal best (6.86).  Shawn McNany placed fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 16-00. All three competed unattached in the open section.

 

The Titans now look ahead to March 1 when Fullerton will get its outdoor season under way at Cal Poly Pamona.
