FULLERTON, Calif.—The Valentine's Day spirit is in the air around the Cal State Fullerton track and field program this week, as some of the distance runners participated in what has a become an annual Valentine's Day themed relay race Tuesday morning.

"This is just a fun event that we do every year now," said head coach John Elders. "The kids really get into it and have really taken it to a new level now."

Over 20 track and field athletes dressed up in their best Valentine's Day attire were paired up, with one male and one female on each team, to make 10 relay teams to compete in the near 10-mile fun and festive relay race.

Casey Candelaria and Jayson Perez took home the win, while Lexie Bravo and Brandon Cook took home the award for "best outfit." Donald Bernard and Monica Nunez were awarded with the title of "most inspirational".

"I think not only did the kids have a good time with it, but it also was a good work out for them," said Elders. "It's a fun little contest, but it definitely isn't an easy thing to win."

The Titans will get back to more standard competition on Sunday when the indoor team competes in its final meet of the season in the Run for the Dream meet in Fresno, California.
