Albuquerque, NM - Katie Wilson placed ninth in the women's 200 meters for the highest showing by a Cal State Fullerton performer on the opening day Friday of the University of New Mexico Collegiate Indoor Track and Field Classic.


Wilson was clocked in 25.04 in an event won by Titans' assistant coach Ciara Short running unattached. Short's winning time was 23.97, just .12 off her school record. Ashley Sims placed 18th in 25.44.


Fullerton had three entrants in the weight throw but Danielle Morton and Sabrina Kraft fouled on all three attempts. Amanda Mercado finished in 14th place with a best mark of 47 - 5 1/4.


The only other Titan competitor Friday was Morgan Thompson, who was 12th in the 600 meters in 1:40.0.


The meet concludes on Saturday with 16 more women's events.
