FULLERTON, Calif. – With the Cal State Fullerton Athletics Hall of Fame slated to induct the Class of 2021 on February 10, we continue unveiling each of our prestigious honorees on FullertonTitans.com. Today we honor Dr. Ken Ravizza and his legacy as a renowned sports psychologist.

Ravizza taught kinesiology classes at Cal State Fullerton for nearly 40 years. His one of a kind methods focused on stress management and applied sports psychology helped aid Cal State Fullerton student-athletes and coaches on and off the field of competition.

In addition to his tireless work as a professor, he also worked directly with Fullerton's storied gymnastics and baseball programs. He supported the 1979 gymnastics squad that went on to win the 1979 AIAW Championship and then, of course, was with three of the Titans' four championship baseball teams.

Ravizza's incredibly unique and effective ways were put to the test in 2004, as the Titans baseball team got off to an underwhelming 15-16 start. He then proceeded to place a toilet in the dugout so that players would have the ability to "flush" their mistakes and turn the page. After that moment, the rest is history. Fullerton went 32-6 the rest of the way and claimed the program's fourth College World Series title.

In addition to the positive impact he had on the Cal State Fullerton community, Ravizza was nationally revered around the baseball community. He worked with the Los Angeles Angels from 1985 to 2000 and then followed former Angels bench coach Joe Madden to the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago Cubs when he took the head manager role. Many credit Ravizza as one of the big reasons why the Cubs were able to break their curse and win the 2016 World Series.

Ravizza also worked with various U.S Olympians, the New York Jets, USC football, Nebraska football, Long Beach State baseball, and UCLA baseball.

Dr. Ken Ravizza passed away in 2018. He is survived by his wife, Claire, and daughters Monica and Nina.
