Titan Memories: Mark Anguiano

Titan Memories: Mark Anguiano

Men's Golf returned to Cal State Fullerton during the 2009-10 school year, thanks in large part to the efforts of Titan super-booster Paul Folino.

Building a Division-I program from scratch was no easy task, but head coach Jason Drotter quickly demonstrated that he was more than up to the challenge. Drotter's second roster of golfers included a Whittier resident, and graduate of La Serna High School, Mark Anguiano.

"I got lucky finding Mark," said coach Drotter. "I was recruiting Ryan Tetrault and Mark happened to be playing in his group. At the time Mark was 5'4" and weighed about 110 lbs. However, he never miss-hit a shot and putted like a God. At the time he was not being aggressively recruited, so I was able to sign him quickly."

Anguiano immediately cracked the starting five for the Titans and would go on to an illustrious career that would lead him to the professional ranks.

"Mark was good in every aspect," said coach Drotter. "He hit it well, wedged it well, chipped well, and putted extremely well. He was open minded and coachable. Because of that he was able to develop his course management. Most importantly, he was very mentally strong and extremely tough on the course.

At Fullerton, Anguiano racked up twenty top-ten finishes, including a 2013 tie for first place in the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, and a 2014 win at the CSUF-hosted Folino Invitational. Following the 2013-14 season, Anguiano was selected Big West Men's Golfer of the Year and was named to the Division-I PING All-West Team after finishing the season with a 69.72 scoring average. He shot rounds of 65 three times during his Titan career.

In the professional ranks, Anguiano had a 2014 victory on the Golden State Tour, and a 2018 win on Canada's Mackenzie Tour. Anguiano is currently a member of the Korn Ferry Tour, a developmental tour for the U.S.-based PGA Tour. The Korn Ferry Tour is scheduled to restart in mid-June 2020.
