INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – No. 3 Cal State Fullerton showcased their dominance with a 4-0 win over No. 6 CSUN on Friday. The program has now tied their historic 2016-17 campaign with the win, Fullerton once again captures 19 wins for the season, a program record.
Fullerton will compete in the semifinal for a second consecutive year after advancing to their first semifinal, last year. Thus far, the program has done its best historically going back to back seasons with 19 overall wins each season.
The Titans are now 19-5 overall for the season with a win percentage of (.792). The win inches them closer to last year's program record winning percentage of (.826).
The dynamic duo of Karla Portalatin and Sarah Nuno did not disappoint on court number one as they took down Monik Van de Vondel, and Skyla Alcon. 6-2. Nuno and Portalatin are now 25-6 this season.
Genevieve Zeidan and Jadie Acidera also found a win over Mari Taslagyan and Kiryang Kim 7-6.
Luxizi Meng and Masako Makiba doubled up in a close one where the tandem of Alicia Dinkelmeyer and Emma Roenholt came out with a 7-6 win.
As the Titans won the doubles point for the 16th time this season, they moved to singles play.
Zeidan got things going for the Titans early in singles play on court number one. Zeidan successfully defeated Van de Vondel 6-1, 6-4.
Meng edged a win over Roenholt 6-2, 6-0 on court number four to put the Titans up 3-0.
For the second consecutive match, Portalatin clinched the victory for the Titans with her 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 stunner over Alcon.
Fullerton will face off against No. 7 Cal Poly, Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
