SAN DIEGO – Cal State Fullerton's eight-match win streak was snapped in a 2-5 loss against San Diego State on Friday. The Titans faced their first loss in a month and move to 14-3 (3-0) as the Aztecs improve to 8-8.
The momentum was on San Diego's side early as the Aztecs swept all three doubles courts and earned the doubles point.
On doubles court number one, Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin suffered a loss to the duo of Smith/Moinard 7-5.
On court number two, Genevieve Zeidan and Masako Makiba lost to the tandem of Buth/Diaz 7-6(4).
Danielle Pham and Caisey Lee Emery suffered a heartbreaker as they lost to Nadozie/Mulbarger 6-0.
Fullerton looked to turn things around in singles play but unfortunately could not as the Aztecs took down the top three courts.
Court number six ruled in Fullerton's favor as Masako Makiba secured a win over Mia Smith 6-1, 6-4.
San Diego did not let up completely as they came back to win court number three. Portalatin fell to Moinard 6-4, 6-3.
Emery fell short to Mulbarger on court number five, Mulbarger won 6-3, 6-4.
No. 125 Zeidan fought hard but ultimately could not come back as she fell to Buth on court number one, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0. With the loss, Zeidan's 14 match win streak is snapped. She is now 15-2 in dual play for the season.
Nuno also put up a battle of her own on court number two but it was ultimately San Diego State's Paola Diaz who beat out Nuno 7-6(3), 6-4.
In a final effort to snag a point for Fullerton, Luxizi Meng brought one home as she defeated Nadozie 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Fullerton gets back to work Wednesday as they take on conference rival UC Davis at 11 a.m.
