Busy Week Starts With Toledo on Tuesday

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's tennis host a trio of teams for the week. The Titans will see Toledo first on Tuesday, then Boston University on Friday, and end the weekend against Utah State on Sunday.

First, serve against the Rockets is set for 1:30 p.m. PT on Tuesday.

OPPONENTS AND HISTORY

March 5 | 1:30 p.m. PT | Titan Tennis Courts | Fullerton, Calif.

Fullerton will take on Toledo for the first time in program history. Currently, the Rockets are riding a six-match win streak with an overall record of 7-2.

March 9 | 1:30 p.m. PT | Titan Tennis Courts | Fullerton, Calif.

The Titans will get a short break and return to the courts on Friday as they face off against Boston University. Friday's matchup will be the first meeting of the two teams. Boston is currently on a two-match win streak with an overall record of 5-4 (2-0).

March 11 | 11 a.m.  PT | Titan Tennis Courts | Fullerton, Calif.

Cal State Fullerton will go up against Utah State to finish the weekend on Sunday. Utah State is 6-6 (2-1) for the season and is on a one-match losing streak. The two teams have met eight times in program history and are currently tied in their series record at 4-4.

The last time these teams met was in 2015 and the Titans pulled through with a 5-2 victory over the Aggies.

MAKING A MARK
Fullerton is stacked with three players who have also remained undefeated at their defending courts.

Genevieve Zeidan has managed to hold down singles court number two with an impressive 8-0 overall record. Karla Portalatin keeps court number three to herself with an overall record of 6-0, and Caisey Lee Emery has court number locked with an overall record of 8-0.

All three of the women ride an outstanding nine-match win streak.

HOME SWEET HOME
This season has proved that at home, the Titans are unstoppable. At home, Cal State Fullerton is 5-0. Three of the five teams have been shut out by Fullerton. The other two opponents managed to gain only one point against the Titans.

SETTING A STREAK
With the 7-0 win over Azusa Pacific, Fullerton is getting back into action as they now ride a three-match win streak.

Before losing to LMU (2/17), the Titans were on a five-match win streak. Cal State Fullerton sits at the top of the leaderboard in the Big West Conference with an overall record of 6-2 (2-0).

CONFERENCE COMPETITION
Fullerton opened conference play with a dominant 6-1 win over UC Riverside on Feb. 3. The Titans capitalized and swept the doubles matches to earn the point to put the Titans in the lead and then proceeded to take five of the six singles matches.  The Titans continued their conference hot streak with a 4-0 win over CSUN on Feb. 16.

SISTER ACT
The Titans' season opener (1/18) marked the beginning of a new era for the Valenzuela sisters. Alexis Valenzuela returned to the courts as the new volunteer coach, while sister, Taylor, embarked on her first match as a Titan.

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Cal State Fullerton welcomed five incoming freshmen for the 2017-18 campaign, Caisey Lee Emery, Jadie Acidera, Tiani Jadulang, Taylor Valenzuela and Genevieve Zeidan. The group was ranked the ninth-best incoming class among mid-majors according to TennisRecruiting.net.

IN THE RANKINGS
Freshman Genevieve Zeidan continues to lead the charge for the Titans, she is currently a stellar 20-2 overall in singles play and 10-1 in dual match play. She is currently riding a phenomenal six-match win streak. Zeidan enters this week ranked No. 103 in ITA Singles Poll.

FULLERTON'S DYNAMIC DUO
Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin are starting to come on strong for the Titans. The tandem is currently 17-3 overall in doubles play and 8-2 on court one in dual match action.

ABOUT DIANNE MATIAS
Matias enters her fifth year with the Titan Tennis program. She owns an overall coaching record of 70-54 and 63-39 mark while with Fullerton. She was named the Big West Conference Coach of the Year in 2016.
