Titans Roll Past Azusa Pacific

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton women's tennis handed Azusa Pacific their first loss since their Feb. 2. The Titans beat out the Cougars 7-0 on Thursday. 

The victory on Thursday pushed the Titans to 9-2 (2-0) for the season. APU is now 6-2 after suffering their first loss since their season opener against Claremount-Mudd-Scripps. 

Momentum was on Fullerton's side from the beginning as doubles play proved to be an all-out sweep. The tandem of Genevieve Zeidan and Masako Makiba faced off against Miclat/Hinton and defeated the duo 6-1 on court number two. 

Caisey Lee Emery and Danielle Pham would go on to blow past the duo of Rinker/Page 6-2 on court three.  Meanwhile, on court one, Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin took on the tandem of Baumgartnere/Ivankovic to come out on top with a 7-5 final score. 

As the doubles point was in the bag, Jadie Acidera and Luxizi Meng found a win of their own over the duo of Betancourt/Resler 6-2. 

Singles play proved to go just as smoothly as doubles play did with another full Titans sweep. 

Masako Makiba got things started once again for the Titans as she found her win over Resler 6-2, 6-2. Makiba has had back to back matches securing the win on court number six for the Titans. 

Karla Portalatin pulled off a flawless 6-0, 6-4 win over Baumgartnere on court number three. 

The fierce freshman Caisey Lee Emery tallied her ninth consecutive win on court number five as she took down Wang, 6-2, 6-4. 

Sarah Nuno held down court number as she found a 6-4, 6-4 win over Miclat. 

No. 103 Genevieve Zeidan finished strong on court number two after battling Ivankovic 6-1, 7-6(5). 

The wins did not stop there for the Titans. On court number four, Luxizi Meng went on to finally top Hinton 7-5, 6-3. On court number seven, Jadie Acidera took down Rinker 6-3, 6-2. On court number eight the final win came for the Titans as Tiani Jadulang defeated Betancourt 1-6, 6-4, 10-5. 

Finally, on court number eight, the Titans suffered an unfortunate loss as Taylor Valenzuela was defeated by Page 6-3, 6-2.
