FULLERTON, Calif. --- For the second straight match, senior Camille De Leon clinched the winning point for Cal State Fullerton as the Titans defeated visiting UC Davis, 4-0, at Titan Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.
With the win, Fullerton (14-1, 3-1 BWC) is closing in on last year's program record 17 victories as the Titans have six matches remaining in the regular season. Fullerton is one of four teams in the Big West Conference with one loss or less and is currently fourth in the league standings.
UC Davis is now 13-6 on the year overall and 1-3 in Big West play.
De Leon, now 10-2 on the year and on a three-match win streak, clinched the match-winning point for the Titans with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 victory over Lani-Rae Green.
Senior Alexis Valenzuela (12-1) defeated Kristy Jorgensen, 6-0, 6-0, at the top of the lineup to earn the Titans' first singles victory of the afternoon, while sophomore Karla Portalatin edged Kristina Breisacher, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
For the 14th time this season, Cal State Fullerton won the doubles point to start the match ahead 1-0.
De Leon and Valenzuela (11-1) extended their win streak to eight matches with a 6-2 victory over Kelsie Bryant and Jorgensen at the top of the lineup.
Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin (13-1) won their 10th in a row with a 6-2 defeat of Breisacher and Isabella von Ebbe at No. 2 doubles.
Fullerton returns to action on Tuesday hosting Azusa Pacific at 1:30 p.m., before traveling to UC Santa Barbara (Saturday, April 8) and Cal Poly (Sunday, April 9).
Notes: Cal State Fullerton has its best record after 15 matches in program history…Fullerton has yet to lose the doubles point in 2017… UCD leads the series 10-3 (since 2005), although the Titans have won the last two matches.
