FULLERTON, Calif. --- Cal State Fullerton will return to action at 11 a.m., Thursday, to host UC Davis (13-5, 1-2 BWC) in Big West Conference action at Titan Tennis Courts.

 

The Titans (13-1, 2-1 BWC) have had more than a week off after delivering Nebraska its first loss of the season, 4-1, on March 21 in Fullerton. The Titans defeated Nebraska for the first time in five tries dating back to 2000.

NEWS & NOTES
Cal State Fullerton has its best record (13-1) after 14 matches in program history, and Fullerton has yet to lose the doubles point in 2017.


Senior Alexis Valenzuela has won her last two matches two improve to 11-1 in 2017, and her career mark is now 51-15 in her dual match singles play.


Fellow senior Camille De Leon is 9-2 in singles action, and boasts a career singles mark of 51-27 at Fullerton.


As a group, the Titans' singles record is 57-17 (.770) in 2017, and Fullerton's doubles record is 29-6 (.829).

Junior Danielle Pham is currently on a three-match win streak as her singles record is now 11-3. De Leon's win at No. 2 singles last week clinched the fourth and match-winning point for the Titans against the Cornhuskers. The senior is on a two-match win streak.

 

In doubles play the team of Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin (12-1) has won nine in a row, while the team of De Leon and Valenzuela (10-1) has won seven straight matches.

 

OPPONENTS
UC Davis collected its seventh victory in its last nine duals with a 6-1 win over Northern Colorado on Sunday. The Aggies will enter its upcoming three-match Big West road swing with a 13-5 overall record.

AWARD SEASON

Senior Alexis Valenzuela has been voted the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week five times during her career and two times in 2017.

Most recently the West Covina, Calif., native earned the honor after going 2-0 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles play in wins against UC Irvine (5-2) and Seton Hall (6-1).

In addition, she posted three singles victories as the Titans swept UC San Diego, the No. 13-ranked team in Division II, as well as San Diego State (4-0) and San Diego (4-3) on the road in the second week of the season.

Cal State Fullerton sophomore Sarah Nuno went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles play to earn the Big West Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week award, it was announced by the league on Feb. 8.
Nuno overcame a first set loss to Joselyn Treyes Albar, but rebounded to win the match against her Dons counterpart, prevailing 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-3.
Against Santa Clara, she blanked Zeina El Tawil, 6-0, 6-0.  She helped the Titans capture the doubles point with Portalatin, as the duo took care of El Tawil and Nabila Farah, 6-2. 
The athlete of the week award was the first for Nuno during her Titan career.
