INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – The 2015 season came to an end for the Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team on Friday following a 4-0 loss to 54th-ranked UC Irvine in the quarterfinals of the Big West Championships at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
The No. 2 seed in the tournament, UC Irvine (16-8) claimed a 1-0 lead by clinching the doubles point. The team of Ali and Kat Facey won their match at the top of the lineup for UCI, while Fullerton's Danielle Pham and Alexis Valenzuela evened the score with a victory at No. 2.
UC Irvine's team of Andrea Duva and Arisha Ladhani defeated CSF's Emilia Borkowski and Kalika Slevcove at No. 3 doubles, 8-5, to win the doubles point for UCI.
In singles action, at the bottom of the lineup, Duva (UCI) defeated Fullerton's Michelle Erasmus, 6-0, 6-2, while at No. 2 singles, UC Irvine's Sarah Gong claimed the Anteaters' third point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Camille De Leon.
The winning point was won as Irvine's Mazy Watrous defeated Emilia Borkowski, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5.
Irvine will move on to play UC Santa Barbara in the semifinals on Saturday.
Cal State Fullerton concludes its season with a record of 10-12 overall and 2-6 in the Big West Conference.
Fullerton holds an overall record of 17-36 dating back to 1989 at the Big West Championships, and the Titans have been the No. 7 seed three times with a record of 2-5 in those matches.
In quarterfinal action, dating back to 1989, the Titans hold a record of 0-15, never advancing to the semifinals.
The Titans manage a record of 3-4 against UC Irvine in the Big West Championships with the first meeting in 1993 in the consolation round. The teams have now met twice in the quarterfinals with UCI defeating Cal State Fullerton 4-0 during the 2006 championships as well.
