NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Freshman Alexis Valenzuela reached the championship match on Sunday after three days of play at the Matador Collegiate Invitational, while Morgan McIntosh and Camille De Leon also earned wins.

Playing in the A bracket, Valenzuela opened play on Friday with two wins, defeating Natasha Rizvi of Air Force, 6-1, 6-1, before moving on to the semifinals with a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Vivian Lin from Cal State Northridge.

On Saturday, Valenzuela defeated de Leon, 6-3, 6-1, in the semis to move on to Sunday's championship match where she faced Precious Gdadamosi of Montana.

Gdadamosi had reached the championship match by edging McIntosh in the semis, 6-2, 6-3.

On Sunday, Gdadamosi proved victorious again in a 7-6, 7-5 win over Valenzuela.

McIntosh and De Leon did not meet in the third place match, but each defeated other opponents.

McIntosh ended the Invitational with a 7-6, 6-0, win over Kristen Poei from Cal State Northridge.

De Leon defeated Lin of Cal State Northridge, 7-5, 6-2.

The Matador Invitational was the final event of the fall for the women's tennis team. The Titans will return the court on Jan. 18 playing a double header at San Diego State and San Diego.
