Baker Named to NFCA All-West Region Second Team

COLUMBUS, OHIO - Cal State Fullerton senior Candice Baker was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region Second Team as a utility player/pitcher as voted on the by the coaches and released by the organization on Thursday afternoon.

A total of 248 players from 121 different teams comprise the first and second regional teams.

Chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams.

Baker earned her third consecutive berth onto the all-region team, but her first appearance on the second team after collecting first-team honors as both a sophomore and junior at the same position.

The senior from Buena Park, Calif., and Cypress HS, finished the regular season in the cirlce with a record of 17-11, a 2.10 ERA and five saves in the circle for the Titans, who finished with a 34-20 overall record and a 13-5 mark in Big West Conference play.

Baker led the Big West with 237 strikeouts and held opponents to a .181 batting average - good for second in the league.

She ranks among the conference's top 10 in ERA (6th), opposing batting average (2nd), innings pitched (3rd), strikeouts (1st), wins (3rd), saves (1st), appearances (tied for 2nd), and games started (2nd).

When not in the circle, Baker hit .276 with a home run, 17 RBI, nine doubles and scored 20 runs.

Cal State Fullerton opens the 2007 postseason on Friday afternoon (May 18) against host Ohio State at spproximately 4:30 p.m. PDT.
