Titans Stay Alive by Beating Canisius, 8-0

Columbus, OH - Katie Gollhardt's 3-run home run keyed a Mercy Rule shortened 8-0 victory for Cal State Fullerton over Canisius Saturday that kept the Titans alive in the NCAA Regional Softball Tournament at Ohio State.

The Titans will play another elimination game at 3 p.m. PDT agaisnt Virginia Tech, which lost earlier Saturday to Ohio State, 2-1.

Candice Baker went four near-perfect innings -- a bunt single produced the only Golden Griffin base runner -- to improve to 18-12. Brooke Weekley got the final three outs of the 5-inning game.

Gollhardt's third-inning homer to right center followed walks from loser Courtney Piar to Ashley Van Boxmeer and Kiki Munoz. The Titans (35-21) , who got a run in the second inning on a bases-loaded wild pitch, got fouir more runs in the fourth. Jessica Doucette singled home two runs and two more socred on an infield single by Munoz and an error. Canisius is eliminated and finishes 27-21 for the season.

Virginia Tech is the No. 1 seed in the regional and No. 16 nationally.
