FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton junior right-handers Candice Baker and Brooke Weekley combined to hold UC Davis to just six hits while striking out 19 batters on the day to help lift the Titans to a doubleheader sweep of the Aggies by the scores of 7-0 and 7-1 on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field.

With the wins, Fullerton surpasses its win total for all of last season in improving to 31-20 overall. The Titans reached 30 victories for the eighth time in the last nine seasons. The Aggies fell to 13-32 overall on the year.

Baker and Weekley each tossed complete-game three-hitters while allowing only one unearned run and one walk between them on the afternoon. Baker improved to 18-8 overall on the year while Weekley evened her pitching record at 3-3.

Freshman Courtney Martinez powered the Titans' offense on the afternoon, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and the game-winning RBI in the opener.

Fullerton also continued its slugging exploits, slamming three home runs in the two games to give them 52 on the season - just two back of the 1999 squad's 54 home runs that stands second all-time in school history. The Titans have now homered in each of their last 12 games dating back to game two of the Cal State Northridge series on April 8.

Cal State Fullerton and UC Davis conclude their three-game series on Sunday afternoon (April 30) at 12 p.m. at Anderson Field.

GAME 1: CAL STATE FULLERTON 7, UC DAVIS 0
Titan junior right-hander Candice Baker tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout and junior Ashley Van Boxmeer slugged her team-best 13th home run of the season as Cal State Fullerton won the series opener with UC Davis by a 7-1 count.

Baker improved to 18-8 overall on the season, allowing only six baserunners on the day and striking out 11 - the eighth time this season that she has reached double figures in strikeouts and the third time in her last four starts.

Baker now has 217 strikeouts on the season which ties her with Ann Van Dortrecht (1990) for seventh on the school's single season list. Her 411 career strikeouts rank eighth all-time, just 47 behind Connie Clark (1986-87) for seventh place.

Lindsay Tognetti (6-13) suffered the loss for the Aggies, allowing two earned (four overall) on four hits, walking four and striking out five. UC Davis was led offensively by Ashley Johnson, who was 2-for-3.

Fullerton got on the board first in the third inning as freshman Courtney Martinez scored Amanda Kamekona with an RBI single to left to make it 1-0. The Titans added three more in the fourth as Kamekona had an RBI single, sophomore Kiki Munoz had a sacrifice fly, and Baker touched home on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.

Van Boxmeer added the exclamation point in the sixth as she slugged the first offering from Lauren Pieretti over the fence in centerfield, scoring Munoz and Baker ahead of her to make it 7-0.

For Van Boxmeer, the 13 home runs this season places her in a four-way tie for fifth all-time on the school's single season list, just one back of Jenny Topping and Yasmin Mossadeghi for third. Van Boxmeer's 23 career home runs as a Titan rank her eighth - just one back of Gina Oaks and Stephenie Little for sixth all-time.

Kamekona and Martinez led the Titans with two hits apiece while four other Fullerton players had base hits.

GAME 2: CAL STATE FULLERTON 7, UC DAVIS 1
Junior right-hander Brooke Weekley allowed an unearned run on three hits while striking out eight and three Titans had multiple hits for the game as Fullerton swept the doubleheader with a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.

Weekley (3-3), making her first start since March 25 against Ohio State, set a new season-high with her eight K's in picking up the complete-game win. She retired 13 consecutive Aggies into the fifth inning after Megan De La Hoya led off the game with a single.

Christina Grimm (2-9) suffered the loss for UC Davis, lasting only one inning and allowing three runs on two hits. Stacey Benzing pitched the final five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits.

The Titans' broke out the bats early, plating three runs in the first as Katie Gollhardt slugged her eighth home run of the year (a solo shot) and Kiki Munoz added her third of the season with a runner on to make it 3-0 in Fullerton's favor.

Cal State Fullerton added a single run in the second as Gollhardt drew a bases-loaded walk and two more in the fourth as Amanda Kamekona sild around the tag of the Aggies' catcher on an infield single by Courtney Martinez and plated another on an RBI single to right by Gollhardt to make it 6-0.

UC Davis finally broke through against Titan pitching in the sixth as Megan De La Hoya reached on a one-out error and scored on Roxanne Hannan's rocket off the glove of Gollhardt at first base to make it 6-1.

Fullerton got the run back in its half of the sixth as Martinez led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a ground out, and reached third on an infield hit by Ashley Van Boxmeer.

Martinez then scored after Van Boxmeer drew a throw trying to steal second base and got caught up in the run-down long enough to allow Martinez to scamper home from third for the final 7-1 advantage.

Martinez, Gollhardt, and Ashlee Weatherford each had two hits for the Titans.
