Gibbens Earns NSCAA All-Region Honors

Dec. 10, 2008

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior defender Jenae Gibbens has been named to the All-West Region Third Team for the second consecutive season as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Gibbens becomes only the second Titan to be honored twice by the organization, joining former Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Karen Bardsley who earned third-team honors in 2002 and second-team honors in 2006. It is also the fourth straight season that a Titan player has been honored on the NSCAA all-region list joining Kandace Wilson and Marlene Sandoval in 2005, Erica Janke in 2006, and Gibbens last season.

A CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-American and a finalist for the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, Gibbens earned All-Big West First-Team honors for the second straight season in 2008, finishing with three goals (all game-winning strikes) and seven assists to tie teammate Stacey Fox for the team lead.

A starter for the final 54 matches of her Titan career, Gibbens finished her three seasons at Fullerton with seven goals and 10 assists. Her seven assists as a senior rank her in a four-way tie for second on the school's single-season list while the three game-winning goals also put her among the top 10.

Gibbens is one nine players in school history to be named to at least three All-Big West teams and one of only eight with a pair of first-team honors. The 2007 Big West Conference Defender of the Year was also twice named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 First Team and earned second-team all-region honors from Soccer Buzz as a junior.
