Titans' Brown Takes on W-League Challenge

May 26, 2011

FULLERTON, CA - After wrapping up his fourth season at the helm of the Cal State Fullerton women's soccer program, Head Coach Demian Brown has undertaken a new challenge this summer, named as the head coach for the USL W-League's Los Angeles Strikers FC on May 24.

Brown replaced departed head coach Reggie Rivas as the team opened its inaugural season with a 2-2 record. The Strikers have 10 regular season matches remaining beginning Sunday (May 29) against the Santa Clarita Blue Heat at 7 p.m. at Pasadena City College.

As head coach of the Titans, Brown has posted a 31-40-8 (.443) overall record in four seasons and has spent the last seven years at his alma mater where he was named the Big West Conference Coach of the Year in 2007 and has helped the program to three Big West regular season titles, three conference tournament crowns, and back-to-back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament - including a trip to the third round in 2005 and a second-round berth in 2006.

While at Cal State Fullerton, Brown has tutored some of the Big West's best defensive players as the Titans have had three conference Defensive Players of the Year in All-American Marlene Sandoval (2005), Erica Janke (2006), and Jenae Gibbens (2007). In addition, 12 different players have earned 18 first-team all-conference honors with 15 more named to the All-Big West second and honorable mention teams.

The USL W-League is the first and longest-standing women's soccer league in North America, kicking-off its 17th season in 2011 and expanding to 27 teams playing in three regional conferences with four divisions. The LA Strikers are one of eight teams in the competitive Western Conference, which has produced three of the last five W-League Champions.

As the second tier of women's soccer in the United States and Canada, the W-League has been a top supplier of players to Women's Professional Soccer, with 13 of the 24 players drafted to the WPS in 2011 having played in the W-League.
