Kellie Cox scored twice and Lauryn Welch tallied once Sunday afternoon to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 3-0 win at Long Beach State which gave the Titans the Big West Conference championship outright and the host's role for the post-season tournamenet next weekend.
The Titans, who needed at least a tie Sunday to keep UC Riverside from sharing the title, will face fourth-place Pacific in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday night in Titan Stadium. UCR will face Long Beach State in the opening game on Friday at 5 p.m. The finals will be Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner receiving an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
It was another record-book day for the Titans (15-3, 6-1), who got two first-half goals and then sewed it up with a late score. Seven consecutive wins ties the school record and 15 victories overall is a new mark. Karen Bardsley (87 minutes) and Shayla Sabin (3 minutes) combined for Fullerton's tenth shutout, extending the single-season record.
Fullerton outshot the hosts, 20-6. Bardsley made 3 saves.
