FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior goalkeeper Karen Bardsley made eight saves to log her second shutout of the season as the No. 15 Titans logged a 0-0 tie with host and No. 10 California in the championship match of the 2006 California Invitational in Berkeley, Calif.
Fullerton remained unbeaten, moving to 2-0-1 overall on the season. The Golden Bears also remained unbeaten, moving to 3-0-1 on the year. The teams were declared co-champions.
Bardsley, who was named the tournament's Co-Most Valuable Player along with Cal's Nadia Al-Lami, was one of three Titans named to the all-tournament team as she was joined by seniors Erica Janke and Lauryn Welch.
The Titans had a chance to log the victory in the 82nd minute as Janke's shot was saved by Cal goalkeeper Anna Key, but was jarred by loose by a Fullerton player and into the net. The goal was disallowed, however, as a foul was called against Fullerton.
The Golden Bears, who outshot the Titans 12-3 in the match, also had a goal called back in the 68th minute on a handball.
Cal State Fullerton continues its month-long road trip next week with a single match on Friday (Sept. 8) as the Titans take on San Diego at 7 p.m.
