Edberg Leads the Field after Two Rounds at Big West Championship

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Cal State Fullerton senior Martina Edberg shot a tournament-low 4-under-par 68 to move into first place on the leaderboard after the second round of play at the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship on Monday at Oak Quarry Golf Club.

With her second-round score of 68 (-4), Edberg is 5-under-par 139 after two rounds of play. She leads UC Riverside's Jakeishya Lee by four strokes (-1, 143).

The Titans entered the day tied for fourth in the standings as a team, but dropped to seventh with a team score of 306 in the second round to bring Fullerton's two-round score to 32-over-par 608.

Cal Poly enters the third round with a 10-shot lead (+11, 587) over UC Davis (+21, 597). Defending champion and host UC Riverside (+23, 599) is in third followed by Hawai'i (+25, 601), Long Beach State (+25, 601), UC Irvine (+28, 604), the Titans and CSUN (+35, 611).

Edberg is the only Titan currently in the top-20 on the leaderboard. Elsa Lundquist is tied for 29th in the standings as her second-round score of 8-over-par 80 brings her two-round total to 13-over-par 157. Pauline Welker is also tied for 29th after shooting an 82 (+10) in the second round.

Junior Daniella Uy has a two-round score of 15-over-par 159 and is tied for 34th on the leaderboard with a second-round performance of 80 (+8) on Monday. Junior Brittany Farrell is also in 34th place after improving her second round score firing a 6-over-par 78.

The final round of the three-day tournament event tees off at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday with Cal State Fullerton and CSUN.  Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com and admission to the event is free.

The winning team advances to the NCAA Division I women's regionals which are held at four sites this year from May 5-7. The four NCAA regionals will be held May 8-10 at the University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, N.C., The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas, and Scarlet Course at Ohio State Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio. 

The 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship is scheduled for May 19-24 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
