Great Goals by Hernandez and Bailey leads to 2-0 Victory Over Cal Poly

FULLERTON, Calif. – With just one home games remaining, Fullerton came into Titan Stadium and had possibly its best game all season, shutting out Cal Poly for a 2-0 victory Wednesday night.

The Titans struck for their earliest goal of the season as Mark Hernandez gained possession after a shot by Samuel Goni went off the post, Hernandez fired the ball from just inside the 18-yard box leaving Mustangs goalkeeper Simon Boehme no chance.

Hernandez made a great play which led to the goal, crossing up the same defender in the left corner of the field several times before crossing the ball in front of the net, leading to the shot off the post by Goni.

Fullerton's defense was impenetrable all night long, leading to its fifth shutout victory of the season. Goalkeeper Paul-Andre Guerin was impressive as well, making three saves on the night to earn his 13th career shutout. Guerin now just needs two more to move into a tie for fourth in the history of the program.

The team was solid at every position tonight, but the highlight of the match came from freshman Zico Bailey to put the Titans up a comfortable two goals in the second half. Bailey got the ball on the right side of the field from Ross McPhie, took two touches and ripped the ball to the top left corner of the net for an outstanding finish and his first collegiate goal.

The Titans out-shot Cal Poly 15 to eight while earning seven corner kicks to the Mustangs just three corner kicks. Fullerton finished with eight fouls in the match while Cal Poly recorded 11.

Fullerton now wraps up its home schedule for the regular season Saturday night against Sacramento State at 7 p.m. PT where the program will recognize its 12 seniors prior to the match.
