IRVINE, Calif. – Fullerton men's soccer took down UCI 3-1 Wednesday night at Anteater Stadium behind Samuel Goni's five points.

With the win the Titans (8-6-2) have now surpassed UC Irvine for second place in the Big West South Division with a record of 3-3-1 in conference play to give them 10 points. Just one point behind first place CSUN who has 11 points.

Fullerton and UC Irvine were equal in shots, both firing off 11 in the match while both shot four in the first half and seven in the second half. The teams played a very physical game throughout as the Anteaters finished with 20 fouls while Fullerton ended the match with 12. The Anteaters outearned the Titans in corner kicks, racking up seven to the Titans one.

Samuel Goni scored his first goal of the game to gave the Titans the advantage in the 32nd minute of action on a beautiful pass from Diego Sanchez. Goni and Sanchez played a great two-man game together, passing back and forth until Sanchez laid the ball off for Goni's easy setup from just outside the six-yard box.

The Spaniard then scored again in the 58th minute to give the Titans a 2-0 lead. Corentin Ohlmann played in a great cross off of a set piece, Goni picked up the ball and made a strong cutback towards the middle of the field to make space to bury his second goal of the game. Goni now has six goals on the season which is tied for fifth place in the Big West.

UC Irvine responded in the 68th minute to cut Fullerton's lead to 2-1 on a goal from Mario Ortiz. Fullerton immediately responded with strong defense to suffocate the Anteaters attack.

Fullerton answered back in the 83rd minute on yet another great play from Goni, this time an assist. The forward used his speed to beat a defender to the ball before making a move around another Anteater to draw Ross McPhie wide open for the easy goal to give the Titans a 3-1 victory. The goal is McPhie's seventh of the season which has him tied for second in the conference.

The Titans look to continue their strong play as they host UC Riverside Saturday night at Titan Stadium in a rematch of last weeks match where the Titans fell to the Highlanders 2-1.
