Fullerton Looks to Bounce Back Against UCI and UCR

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Titans hope to rebound after a tough week where they went 0-1-1 as they head to UC Irvine Wednesday with kickoff at 7 p.m. before returning home to host UC Riverside at Titan Stadium Saturday.

IN THE STANDINGS
Fullerton is now in third place in the Big West Conference South division after recording one point in two game last week. The Titans have seven points with a 2-3-1 record in conference play. UC Irvine and CSUN are tied for first in the division at 2-2-2 with eight points while UC Riverside is in fourth place with six points.

QUICK HITS

• Cal State Fullerton is coming off of a week in which they went 0-1-1 with a draw against CSUN and a loss to UC Riverside.

• The Titans recorded 30 shots in their two games this past week, shooting 15 shots in each game.

• Forward Samuel Goni added his fourth goal of the season in the Titans 2-1 loss to UC Riverside. Goni is second on the team in goals behind Ross McPhie who has six.

• McPhie's six goals is slots him tied for third in goals in the Big West Conference. The junior midfielder has also added three assists to give him 15 total points which is also ranked third in the conference.

• Kuntz is in his 4th season at the helm of the Titans. Cal State Fullerton is 40-31-13 under his leadership.

OPPONENT AND HISTORY

UC Irvine
7 p.m. | Wednesday, Oct. 18 | Anteater Stadium

Fullerton will head to Head Coach George Kuntz's old stomping grounds Wednesday as the take on UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium. The Titans and UC Irvine will meet for the 56th time in the history of the two programs. Fullerton trails in the all-time matchup against the Anteaters by two games with a record of 22-24-9 and are 9-14-4 while playing Irvine at Anteater Stadium. The last time the two teams met the fixture ended in a 1-1 draw at UC Irvine. Previously to last years draw, the Titans had beat the Anteaters four consecutive time.

UC Irvine heads into Wednesday's matchup tied for first place in the Big West South Division with a record of 2-2-2 in conference play. The Anteaters are coming into the game after suffering a 3-2 loss to CSUN Saturday night on the road after earning a 4-0 victory over UC Riverside Wednesday night.

The Anteaters sit atop the Big West Conference in several offensive categories which include goals with 30 on the season, assists (36) and total points (96). Giovanni Godoy leads UC Irvine and the conference with 11 goals on the season and is coming off of a week in which he scored four goals in two games. Daniel Crisostomo and Mario Gomez lead the conference in assists with nine and eight, respectively. 

UC Riverside
7 p.m. | Saturday, Oct. 21 | Titan Stadium

UC Riverside and Fullerton will meet for the 38th time in the history of the two programs. The Titans have the advantage in the all-time matchup with a 19-11-7 record against the Highlanders and are 8-6-3 when playing at Titan Stadium.

Fullerton looks to get revenge on the Highlanders after falling to them Saturday night in 2-1 loss at UCR Soccer Stadium. The Titans far outplayed UC Riverside statistically, out shooting the Highlanders 15-6 including 11-3 in the first half. Fullerton had two key mistakes that led to the loss, with a handball in the fifth minute of play that led to a penalty kick which put them behind 1-0 early on while also giving up a goal late in the 80th minute that they could not overcome.

Titans Knocking on the Door
Fullerton has had its fair share of chances to score of the last two games but have just not been able to finish. In the Titans two games last week they had a combined 30 shots with 15 in each game while scoring just one goal. Fullerton is third in the conference in total shots with 188, just four shots behind UC Davis who is second in the conference. Bass Sarr leads Fullerton with 28 shots, which is enough for fifth most in the entire Big West. Of the Titans 188 shots, 74 for of them have been on goal giving them a .394 shots on goal percentage. Fullerton has outshot its opponents in nine of the 15 games this season.
