FULLERTON, Calif. – Junior Ross McPhie continued his stellar season for the Titans as he netted a goal for the second consecutive match to give Fullerton a 1-0 victory over UNLV Friday night at Titan Stadium.

Fullerton (5-3-1) wraps up its non conference schedule on a hot streak as it is now 3-0-1 in its last four games. The Titans hope to continue their strong play next week when they start Big West Conference play.

"It's always a confidence builder, we haven't lost in four games now so it's always pleasing. We think we have the ability to keep doing it," McPhie said.

McPhie now has four goals on the year through nine games, surpassing his total goals scored (3) from the entire 2016 season.

The Titans outplayed UNLV in every facit of the game, outshooting them 12-7 while completely controlling the match in the first period with five shots to one. The corner kicks were even as UNLV was able to earn four in the second period to equal Fullerton's four corners.

Fullerton showed much better athleticism and teamwork throughout the match, forcing the Rebels to take 17 fouls including two yellow cards against Oscar Velazquez and Jordan Chavez, respectively.

The defense of the Titans got some much needed help as senior leader Corentin Ohlmann returned after missing the last two matches with a nagging injury. Ohlmann led the Titans stingy defense all night, allowing just three shots on goal. The senior defender also chipped in on the offensive side with a header on goal off of a set piece in the second half that the Rebels goalkeeper just barely got his fingertips on to make the save.

True freshman Irving Arvizu has helped out on the defensive end with the injuries Fullerton has dealt with. Head Coach George Kuntz said earlier this week that he was considering redshirting Arvizu but decided not to, the decision has paid off mightily for the Titans.

Sophomore Alfredo Cortez made his fourth consecutive start in goal, earning his third win of the season. Cortez has not lost a game in his four starts and has allowed just two goals while making 15 saves.

The Titans now look to continue their winning ways as they head into their conference schedule starting with a two-game road trip to UC Santa Barbara Thursday night and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Saturday.
