Titans Dominate San Francisco in Neutral Site Fixture

Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Fullerton returned to its winning ways Sunday afternoon in a 3-0 shutout victory over the University of San Francisco in a neutral site match in San Diego.

The Titans (3-3) went to the locker room at halftime scoreless with the Dons (1-5), however, the second half was much different as Fullerton ended its two-game scoreless streak, netting three goals in the final 45 minutes of action.

Freshman Christian Pinzon ended the scoreless match in the 57th minute with his first goal in a Titan uniform on an assist from Diego Sanchez. In the 70th minute midfielder Ross McPhie extended Fullerton's lead with great footwork inside the box to get around the defender to score his second goal of the season and give the Titans a 2-0 lead on the assist from Mario Gomez.

Samuel Goni scored in the 88th minute to put the game in the refrigerator for the Titans, giving them a 3-0 lead with just two minutes to play. McPhie assisted on the goal with a perfect cross for his third point of the game.

Fullerton's three goals were a result of continues pressure in the offensive zone. The Titans controlled the game throughout, outshooting the Dons 18-7 while totaling as many shots on goal as San Francisco had in total shots.

McPhie led the Titans with five shots while Goni added three with two of them being on goal. Sophomore Alfredo Cortez recorded the shutout victory in his first start in goal for the Titans. Cortez faced two shots in the match with help from Fullerton's storming defense.

The Titans look to get on a winning streak as they return home to host Vermont Friday Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at Titan Stadium.
