Titans Take Down Terriers to Earn First Win of Season

Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With time winding down in double overtime, Fullerton's Samuel Goni buried a goal off of a corner kick to give the Titans their first win of the season Sunday at Wofford College.

"Today was a good win on the road against a very difficult Wofford College team after a tough loss to No. 5 Clemson on Friday. I'm very proud of our first win on the season," said Head Coach George Kuntz.

The match was scoreless throughout until the Titans (1-1) earned a corner kick in the 107th minute. Senior Diego Sanchez took the corner and delivered a perfect ball into the box allowing Goni to take it off the bounce and net Fullerton's first goal of the season.

"It was great to see Samuel Goni score," Kuntz said. "After suffering an injury last year before the season where we expected him to make a huge impact, it was most deserved, especially for Samuel to be the first to score this season."

Fullerton dominated the contest on both sides of the field, giving up just three shots to Wofford (0-2) with none of them being shots on goal. The Titans on the other hand got off 17 shots in the match with four of them goal. The team came out of the locker room for the second half aggressive as they got off eight shots to Wofford's one.

The Titans defense was smothering throughout the match, giving goalkeeper Paul-Andre Guerin a relatively easy day in net as he face no shots.

Fullerton also out dueled the Terriers in corner kicks, earning 11 on the day, five in the first half, while having to defend against just one from Wofford.

"This team on less than two days rest created 17 shots to their three and 11 to one corner kicks show the dominance in this match," Kuntz said.

Alex Juarez, Bass Sarr and Sanchez all finished the fixture with three shots apiece while Ross McPhie and Goni got two shots off. Both of Goni's shots were on goal including the game winner.

The Titans were called for 15 fouls in the game with three of them being yellow cards given to Sam Molz, Michael Lopez and Corentin Ohlmann.

Fullerton now returns home to face Santa Clara Friday night at 7 p.m. at Titan Stadium.
