Fullerton Game Notes

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton opens up the 2017 campaign against No. 5 ranked Clemson on the road, Friday at 2 p.m. at Riggs Stadium. The Titans will then travel down the road to take on Wofford College in the final game of the two game road trip, Sunday at 8 a.m. PT.

QUICK HITS
• Cal State Fullerton started off the preseason with a 2-0 loss to the California Golden Bears on Aug. 14 at Titan Stadium. The Titans then wrapped up the preseason on a high note with a 3-2 victory over the Alumni team. 

• The Titans went 3-2-2 at home last year, as opposed to owning a 5-6-2 record on the road last season and a 2-1-1 record at neutral sites.

• Titans have made it to three consecutive conference tournament finals, inluding winning back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.

• The Titans have qualified for the NCAA Tournament two of the last three seasons. 

• Kuntz is in his 4th season at the helm of the Titans. Cal State Fullerton is 33-25-11 under his leadership.

IN THE POLLS
The Titans came in second place in Big West's men's soccer preseason poll released on Aug. 17. Cal State Fullerton secured 24 points in the polls, trailing CSUN in first with 30 points. Robert Coronado and Ross McPhie made the preseason All-Conference Team.  

OPPONENT AND HISTORY 

Clemson University

The Titans and Tigers have met twice in the history of the programs, each team secured a win in their respective home games.  The last time the two teams met was in 2001at Titan Stadium, Fullerton won 2-1 in overtime.

Wofford College
8 a.m. | Sunday, Aug. 27 | Snyder Field

Fullerton faces Wofford College for the first time in program history. 

2016 RECAP
The Titans finished last season 10-9-4 (4-3-3 Big West) to earn a second-place finish in the Big West Conference South Division. Fullerton made it to its third consecutive conference tournament finals appearance and were just minutes away from going into PK's when CSUN ended its chances of a three-peat with a late second goal. 

COMBINATION OF OLD AND NEW
Titans welcome back a strong core of players from last season with 16 returners, including six starters. Ross McPhie and Robert Coronado headline the returners as they were tied for the second most points on the team last season with eight apiece. Paul-Andre Guerin returns for his sophomore season and is expected to start in goal for the Titans after making 13 appearances with a 4-6-0 record last year. Along with the familiar faces from 2016, Fullerton adds 16 new additions to the roster with six transfers and 10 freshmen. 

SEASON OPENERS
Fullerton looks to change the course of history as they have started off the past five seasons with a loss and have not won a season opener since the 2009 season.
